The Montana Career Information System (MCIS) is a comprehensive Internet-based system that delivers accurate and useful local and national information to assist users in making career plans and learning how to achieve their educational and career goals.
MCIS provides unbiased information on more than 550 occupations, 640 programs of study, and current Montana wage, employment and outlook data. In addition, users can access pertinent data on all accredited Montana schools, and 3,500 other schools as well as over 12,000 financial aid opportunities.
The Montana Career Information System (MCIS) is available free to all Montanans.
MCIS is available in a high school/adult version or a junior/middle school version (MCIS Junior). Also, MCIS has several optional components that organizations can add, such as academic and civil service practice tests, and IDEAS assessment tool, Universal Encouragement Program, and Dependable Strengths. Personalized Portfolios
Each user has the ability to create a unique portfolio in which to store their assessment results, to use the resume writer feature, and to save the information they've looked up about occupations, schools, scholarships, and more. Users can also create a career plan, a high school course plan, and store important information like their education and work history. |
Scholarship and Financial Aid Search
Our scholarship and financial aid search tool allows users to learn about thousands of scholarships, grants, and loans. Users can customize their queries to learn about financial aid options for which they qualify, without spending time, money, and energy on programs for which they do not qualify. |
Practice Tests
Through the portfolio option, users can take practice tests for the SAT, ACT, and other standardized tests.

Assessment Option
MCIS allows users to take several different interest and skills assessments. The assessment option connects the results of these and other common assessment tests to a list of MCIS occupations. The IDEAS and Dependable Strengths assessments are also available as optional components.

Universal Encouragement Program (UEP)
UEP is a free guidance assessment tool for schools and educational supplement programs. UEP enables schools to easily collect data on student interests, needs, experiences, and development to improve programs, identify gaps, and measure progress. Instructions for UEP Setup

- Teachers, Counselors, Schools, Agencies, Organizations: To be able to track your student/customer usage and progress through MCIS you will need to fill out a MCIS Site Request/Renewal Form. This will give you your own sub site within the Career Information System site where your students/customers will be able to set up their own portfolios and allow you administrative access to reports on system usage, portfolios; set up staff accounts and manage groups or portfolios.
