Some helpful keys when using the data tools features are:
|
| Selecting |
| |
You can select consecutive items in the fields by clicking on the first selection then hold down the shift key and select the last item you want in the field or use the Select/Clear All checkbox if available. |
| |
For non-consecutive items hold down the control key while you make your selections. |
| Searching |
| |
When searching for an industry or occupation you can continue to press the "find it" button to cycle through the list to see the various industries or occupations. You do not have to type in the full name, you can shorten it to the first letters and use the "find it" button to scroll through all industries or occupations with those letters. |
| Viewing |
| |
You may have several types of viewing options - areas (US, State, County, etc.), time frame (Year, Month, etc.), data table (standard table format - columns and rows), or graph (flash or gif file) select by clicking the radio or check box. |
| Sorting |
| |
To sort your results you can use the up and down arrows to the left of a column heading (up arrow = ascending; down = descending). |
| Downloading, Saving |
| |
To save or download your results you will need to sign up and set up your own account. These accounts are secure and no information is given out. This is a service to provide you with an area to save any of the queries that you make so you can access them again without having to perform the step by step process. |
| |
To download your results select the download button and save the text file to your computer. This text file is a comma seperated value (csv) file, so when you either open or import the text file into your spreadsheet program you will need to select delimited for the data type and comma as the delimiter. |
| |
To save click the save button name your file and save. You can then view your results on the My Future page by clicking on the file name. To delete the file click on the x to the right of the file name. |
